The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team managed to identify one of the dead victims in Friday`s bomb attacks as Australian John Gear Rufer McEvoy, police said.
"The victim is identified as John Gear Rufer McEvoy," spokesman of the National Police headquarters Insp. Gen. Nanang Soekarna said here on Sunday.
McEvoy is an Australian citizen. When this report was made the body of McEvoy was still kept at Keramat Jati Police hospital in East Jakarta.
Police data mentioned that there were reports about two Australian citizens gone missing.
Nanang called on all sides to report to the police if they had missing family members following the bomb attacks on JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels on Friday which killed nine people and injured over 50 others.
Nanang Sukarna said on Friday six people were killed on the spot at JW Marriott Hotel and two at Ritz-Carlton Hotel, while another died at Medistra Hospital.
The injured, including at least 16 foreigners, were admitted to Pertamina Hospital (one person), the Jakarta Hospital (10), the Motropolitan Medical Center (MMC) Hospital (12), and Medistra Hospital (2), he said.
The Australian government has offered help to Indonesia to handle the victims of Friday`s bombings in South Jakarta.
"We are ready to help the Indonesian government identify and treat the victims," Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said on Saturday after meeting with his Indonesian counterpart, Hassan Wirajuda.
Smith said Australia also offered help to identify or catch the perpetrators of the bombings at JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels.
Smith said Australia fully supported Indonesia that is trying hard to catch the perpetrators as soon as possible.
Based on a cooperation agreement signed in February 2002 and the Lombok-Perth agreement signed on November 26, 2006, the two sides would cooperate in the fight against terrorism.
