Police in Sidoarjo, East Java, have distributed pictures of wanted terrorist Noordin M Top following the bombings at two luxury hotels in Jakarta last Friday.
The Sidoarjo police`s head of community outreach affairs, Commissioner Fathoni, said here on Saturday the bombings in Jakarta had made police move fast in taking anticipatory measures.
"One of the measures is distributing the pictures of Noordin M Top to motorists passing through the district," he said.
He said the police involved police partners in the effort which were aimed at alarming the people on the threat of terrorism.
The activity was also done following orders from superiors to take anticipatory measures in their respective regions.
He hoped people would inform the police if they found suspicious people in their neighbourhood, saying distributing pictures was more effective than conducting sweeps in crowded places.
Motorists welcomed the effort. "We hope Sidoarjo will remain safe," some of them said.
Fathoni said the police had also distributed the pictures among people at fast-food restaurants.
Noordin`s fellow terrorist Dr Azahari was killed during a raid in Malang, East Java a few years ago.
Nine people were killed in the bombings at JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels early on Friday in Jakarta while more than fifty people had been wounded. Some foreigners were among the dead and the wounded in the incidents.
Police are still searching for the perpetrators of the incidents. The government strongly condemned the bombings and had vowed to catch the perpetrators. (ant)
