KPK questions home affairs minister

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto here on Wednesday.

Mardiyanto arrived at the KPK office at 10:38 on Wednesday morning to be questioned in a corruption case related to the procurement of fire trucks for regional administrations a few years ago.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said Mardiyanto would be questioned in his capacity as former Central Java governor.

"The KPK investigating team will question the former Central Java governor as a witness in the alleged corruption case," Johan Budi said, adding that the team would try to obtain information from the minister to complete the dossier of Oentarto Sindung Mawardi, former director general of regional autonomy at the Home Affairs Ministry who had been named a suspect in the corruption case.

Johan Budi said the KPK would also investigate Hadi Purnomo in his capacity as Central Java regional secretary, and Warsono, Central Java people`s welfare office chief.

The KPK has also investigated Tanggamus district head Bambang Kurniawan, former Tanggamus district head Fauzan Sa`i, and Riau Islands Governor Ismeth Abdullah in the same corruption case.

Former director general for regional autonomy Oentarto Sindung Mawardi has been named a suspect in the corruption case in the procurement of fire trucks for a number of regions in the country.

Oentarto was the official who had signed a radiogram to regional administration chiefs across the country on the procurement of the fire trucks.

The radiogram became the basis for PT Istana Sarana Raya and PT Satal Nusantara owned by businessman Hengky Samuel Daud to become the home affairs ministry``s sole partner in fire trucks procurement project.

Hengky Samuel himself has also been named a suspect in the case.
According to Oentarto, former Home Affairs Minister Hari Sabarno was also entailed in the similar case
